The reason Kentucky has it right!

Recently a bill was introduced to Kentucky's House of Representatives, called HB208, a bill that seeks to modify the states rules that would require adult who are and will receive public assistance ( such as EBT benefits, TANF, state health care programs) to be DRUG TESTED upon application for such benefits, and once a year every year for as long as they remain on these assistance programs.

I think that every state should follow suit and see to it that this bill becomes LAW! Here is my reason:

Today while at work ( I work for one of the fastest growing grocers in the U.S. which I can not disclose the name of, due to company policy)  a coworker had drawn my attention to a suspicious customer.  He was very obviously under the influence of some heavy drugs, and his actions were off. After being in the store for about 10 min he came to my check-out lane with an Indian couple.  This couple owns a store and comes in regularly to purchase large quantities of items to turn around and sell in their convenience store for more money.  (which for some reason is legal, I can understand buying from a wholesaler, but not from a local grocery store)  The whole time I was ringing the order through I had a really strong uncomfortable feeling about the situation. Once I completed scanning the items "he", or should I say THEY were purchasing, he pulls out his Massachusetts EBT card and swipes it... well he didn't have quite enough to cover the Food Stamp Eligible balance so the Indian couple started picking out item for me to void.  I knew right at that moment that my suspicions were correct. ( just then one of my regular couples noticed what was going on also, and they could tell I was NOT pleased about it!)  Because the voids were over my cashier limit I had to call a manager up to turn their key and approve the voids.  When I opened to door to the office, (which is right behind the register I was operating) I quickly explained to the manager on duty what was going on and he just shook his head and had a few choice words.  As I continued to ring the next couple, who like I said are regulars through my line, they stated how crappy that was, and I kept my eyes on the man and the Indian couple.  As soon as they were leaving the store through the vestibule I seen the Indian man hand the drugged up man cash. THIS IS WRONG AND ILLEGAL.  The order totaled $197. 79.  That is $197.79 that could feed a family who needs help but "makes too much" according to the "guidelines" to receive help. (even though the benefits come from the taxes we give up each week!)  Our government needs to WAKE UP!!! People like this are the ones who do not deserve the benefits!! There are working families losing their homes because they don't make enough to cover the bills, but according to their stupid guidelines "make too much".  We are called the working poor people. Our politician think that because a family has more then one income, or the income coming is over their ridiculous guidelines that some of these families are not deserving.  But they extend these benefits, that many of us pay for with our hard earned taxes and will never see even in the hardest of times, to many who have never worked a day in their lives, who keep popping out kids, and give them more money in these benefits than a working family make in a month!  I see people with HUNDREDS of dollars per month in EBT benifits, some using mulitple EBT cards, some using EBT cards from both Mass and RI, come in everyday with smart phones, fake nails, Nike Jordans, a few who drive hummers and Caddies,  and nicer clothes than I can EVER imagine buying. I am not saying that these people should not have nice things but when I cant afford these kinds of luxuries, and they have them thanks to mine and other hard EARNED tax dollars, ohhhhhhh that just really burns my backside!

Well because I stand up for what I believe in, I copied his EBT card #, the purchase amount and time of purchase.  I am going to report this incident to the Department of Transitional Assistance.  Hopefully if others see this type of thing happening they do the same. It is the only way the government will see the pattern.  If felt very crappy completing the order in the first place, and I will be speaking with management about this type of situation because I WILL NOT finish an order where it is so blatantly obvious that this situation is happening.

This is just my two cents, let me know what you think.
